SAFETY TIPS FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON Utilize the Chesterfield Police Vacation Watch Program. If you are leaving town, contact the police department, #636-537-3000 and an officer will stop by each day and check on your home. Make sure homes are secure; windows, doors and garages. Place lights or a TV on a timer so it appears someone is home. Avoid leaving displays of gifts in view of open windows. When sending Christmas cards with money, gift cards, etc. send them from the post office rather than putting them in your mailbox. When shopping, do not overload yourself or your vehicle with gifts. Never leave your purse in the car, and keep it on your person at all times. Avoid leaving purses in shopping carts, etc. while you are shopping. Shop with a "buddy", or check in with family members if you are going to be out all day. Park in well lit areas. When going to holiday parties, if you plan to consume alcohol, plan to have a designated driver. The most important thing for everyone to do during the holiday season is to be alert and aware of your surroundings, both at home and away. Trust your instincts and contact the police department with ANY suspicious activities, persons or vehicles. Source: Chesterfield Police Department |
